Transcribing a document is a very tedious, yet rewarding experience. It is amazing that correlation between how people wrote and talked then, to how they do now. Yes, there are many grammatical differences, but the fact that we can still read and for the most part understand these documents, is phenomenal. As great as it is, it is at some points rather difficult. There are a lot of words that are squished into different lines. As previously stated, the grammatical differences served as the biggest difficulty. Unfamiliar abbreviations were used and at times capital letters were thrown places that they would not belong now.
One of the other difficulties was that when transcribing, you have to remember that you are supposed to just move what is on the document and make it readable on another. It is difficult because you find yourself wanting to fill in words that might belong somewhere to help it make more sense. However, that is the difference between transcribing and translating. In the beginning, Microsoft Word wanted to make a lot of corrections to what I was writing, so that was another factor. It was definitely a rewarding experience though.
